How structure selection works

The page delegates calculations to separate sole-trader, umbrella-company, and limited-company strategy classes. The umbrella and limited-company strategies reuse the shared IR35 calculation service rather than copying Batch 1 formulas into the page.

FAQ

Why does umbrella ignore expenses?

Umbrella workers generally have a narrower expense position than a trading business. The calculator keeps that assumption visible instead of treating all entered costs as deductible.

Does sole trader include Class 4 National Insurance?

Yes. Sole trader estimates use configured self-employed National Insurance thresholds and rates for the selected tax year.
